Saudi Arabian Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery is one of the growing societies that were established in 2010 G under the umbrella of the SCFHS. The aims of the society include:

  • Publishing and disseminating clinical guidelines on prevention and treatment of obesity in Saudi Arabia.
  • Conducting and supporting research on obesity.
  • Publishing a regular scientific journal "SJO."
  • Conducting scientific activities (symposia, clubs, forums, and meetings) on obesity.
  • Conducting and disseminating educational activities for the public about weight disorders including a regular magazine in Arabic language.
We hope that this society will achieve the above mentioned objectives. However, as a growing society we need the contribution and the support of the concerned health professionals in order to attain our vision "Toward community of normal body weight."

In the first meeting of the board, we promised our targets that within few months, we will launch the first issue of an English journal and an Arabic magazine and to open many offices in different regions of Saudi Arabia.

Thanks to extraordinary effort of the editorial team, today we celebrate together "birth" of the first issue of SJO hoping that this journal will be rich educational source for health providers caring for obesity in the region.

Finally, we welcome all concerned people to join us as members, to share our vision and to contribute in different academic and public activities of the society.
